The body of CFD Firefighter Jermaine Pelt
CHICAGO — The bodies of two Chicago firefighters who died this week in back-to-back fire tragedies were taken Friday from the Cook County Medical Examiner to funeral homes.
CFD Firefighter Jermaine Pelt died Tuesday of smoke inhalation battliing a house fire on the South Side, Pelt, from the West Pullman neighborhood, had walked his daughter down the aisle a week ago at her wedding. The 49-year-old fallen firefighter received a motorcade escort to Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn. Arrangements are pending.
CFD Lt. Jan Tchoryk, 55, died Wedenesday of a heart attack while climbing up the stairs while fighting a high-rise fire on the city’s Gold Coast. Tchoryk was a U.S. Navy veteran, and a married father of three. His son is a Chicago police officer.
Tchoryk’s body was brought to Cumberland Chapels in Norridge. Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. The fallen firefighter will be escorted in a solemn procession from the funeral home at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 13, to St. Joseph the Betrothed Ukrainian Catholic Church, for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Arrangements are entrusted to Friel Funeral Directors.
